A popular Gold Coast swimming spot has been reopened almost a fortnight after a young man tragically drowned at the site.

The netted enclosure at Paradise Point was badly damaged during the emergency response on Sunday December 8, as first responders attempted to save the life of 29-year-old Jake Brown after he entered the water and failed to resurface.

“The Paradise Point swimming enclosure has reopened following the completion of risk and safety assessments and the installation of a new net,” a Gold Coast City Council spokeswoman said in a statement on Thursday.

“The City will continue to take any action necessary to ensure safety at the swimming enclosure and we remind the community to heed safety signage at all our enclosures.

“The City’s thoughts remain with the family following the tragic incident.”

Council hasn’t confirmed whether a decision has been made about a permanent lifeguard presence at the busy swimming spot.

Police have previously said it appeared Mr Brown had been sitting on the boundary netting which rings the enclosure when he fell. Mr Brown’s body was recovered by emergency services four hours after he went missing following a frantic search which included water police, Polair and the dive squad.

Investigations into the cause of his drowning are continuing, with a report for the coroner to be prepared.

Witness reports from the scene said he had been drinking before he drowned.
