The federal election campaign has passed through Zuccoli, with residents promised a multi-million dollar community hub if the Albanese Government is re-elected.

At Zuccoli dog park on Saturday afternoon, Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, Solomon MP Luke Gosling, Senator Malarndirri McCarthy and City of Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell announced their plan to deliver a new library and community hall to complement the rapidly-growing suburb.

The Albanese Government will contribute $10 million towards the project, with the City of Palmerston to splash a further $3 million.

With the site expected to have gardens, community space and an outdoor centre, Ms Pascoe-Bell welcomed Labor’s commitment.

“This piece of very vital community infrastructure is essential not only to the Palmerston community, but also to the surrounding rural areas with Howard Springs just over the road there,” she said.

“We know that a lot of families enjoy this space and we look forward to developing this site in conjunction with the commonwealth.”

The announcement comes just weeks after Zuccoli joined the electorate of Mr Gosling, who maintained the project was top of the agenda.

“This is a high priority for the mayor and for the City of Palmerston, but it’s also a high priority for the people who live here in this growing area,” he said.

“Our federal commitment to the Zuccoli community hub will ensure that this growing area of Palmerston has got a first class place for events, for (people) to come together, and that’s the sort of social infrastructure that people know Labor continues to back for our communities.”

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles commended the plan as a “great example” of cooperation between federal and local government.

“We all know as local members of parliament how utterly critical hubs of this kind are,” he said.

“What we see around us - take a vision in your mind now, because in a few years time this is going to be a place of enormous community gathering and it will be a really important piece of social infrastrucutre, and one that we’re really proud to partner with the City of Palmerston on.”
