A supergroup of singers representing the far corners of the world will join forces this weekend, with a unique, high-energy show set to take over the Darwin Festival.

Made up entirely of Territorians, the Darwin World Mix comprise of virtuoso musicians who all call the city home, blending their unique musical talents to create a special atmosphere.

With principal singers from Madagascar, Jamaica, the Philippines, Japan and traditional Arnhem Land, the performance is backed by a rack of unique instruments.

Drummer Allen Murphy said the group planned to deliver a particularly special show.

“The group is made up of a variety of people from all over the world, but they all live here in Darwin,” he said.

“We’ve been together for several years and all come from other businesses and projects, we hope to bring something really special to Darwin.

“We’ve got a really interesting show planned - it will be a really relaxed, Darwin vibe - but it’s going to be very fun.”

Joining the show will be award-winning singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and music teacher Afro Moses, who is known to fuse traditional African music with western styles.

Arnhem Land brothers Larry and Vernon Gurruwiwi have also committed to the show, with the Top End men expected to perform music that carries thousands of years’ worth of tradition.

With Japanese traditional drums, harmonicas, and even ukuleles in tow, Mr Murphy said the evening would be a rare experience.

“You’re not going to see this all the time, this is something special,” he said.

“We want people to come along and go, hey, I am glad I was here for this.”

Darwin World Mix will perform on the INPEX Sunset Stage at 9pm on Friday, August 16.
