One of the Territory’s worst ever paedophiles was “king hit” and left with serious injuries in an unprovoked attack in Holtze prison.

Nathan Gerrarde Kinkade, 49, was on Monday sentenced to an extra two years jail for the unprovoked August 2018 attack on William Gordon Turner, 63.

A jury last week found him guilty of unlawfully causing serious harm to the older man.

Turner is serving an indefinite jail sentence and has previously been described as a “sexual predator” who will reoffend no matter what age he is released at.

Kinkade was soon to be released on parole at the time of the attack and told the Supreme Court another prisoner had previously knocked some of his teeth out “for no reason” other than that he was a paedophile.

“I have been assaulted in prison a number of times,” Kinkade said.

“Prison is a violent place and lots of people, because I’m smaller, pick on me.”

Kinkade, self represented, said his conviction was the result of a “miscarriage against a self represented person”.

JAILHOUSE JUSTICE: shocking violence inside Holtze Prison

Turner, in a victim impact statement, said the broken hip he suffered when he fell in the attack never properly healed and that he would need another operation.

Justice Trevor Riley said Holtze prison “shouldn’t be a violent place”.

He said Kinkade tried to take Turner to clean blood off the floor and off of his victim.

“You indicated to witnesses that Mr Turner had fallen and that he was alright and said they should not press the call button …

“In the circumstances, I conclude that this was about removing evidence of the incident rather than making sure he was clean.”

He said Kinkade’s offending “raised some questions about whether you were concerned about being released” although Kinkade said it wasn’t the case he was worried about “coming out into a different world”.

Justice Riley sentenced Kinkade to three years jail, two years of which will be added to the 12 year jail term Justice Stephen Southwood imposed in 2011.

Kinkade will now be eligible for parole in March 2020.
