AN ALICE Springs resident has been left shaken after being surrounded by up to 40 kids harassing and throwing rocks at her car while she waited to pick up her teenage son.
Kate Dobie said she was sitting at McDonalds carpark last week about 9pm when “out of nowhere” a group of around 30-40 youths aged from 9-14 surrounded her car.

“I couldn’t do anything … the next thing I know rocks are being thrown at and on the roof of my car,” she said.
“I rang triple-0 and they scattered after they saw I was on my phone.
“Being on my own there was no way I was going to get out of my car, I wouldn’t have stood a chance.”
Ms Dobie said she loves the town she has lived in for more than 30 years, and said it has a great community, but the anecdotal rise in crime is at its highest point.
“I can see why so many people are leaving town but something needs to be done,” Ms Dobie said.
“I don’t feel comfortable going into town of a night-time now – I’m a single mum.
“I’m getting frustrated with all the, ‘They don’t know what they’re doing’; They know what they’re doing.
“If something’s not done soon then something more serious is going to happen, and it’s brewing.
“You can feel it, and when it explodes, lord help us.”
Araluen MLA Robyn Lambley said, “When you hear stories like this it is clear we still have a very, very long way to go.”
