The court heard Parker was at a house with several others, including adults and children where the adults were drinking.
Judge John Birch said Parker’s sister started teasing his daughter, which prompted a fight between Parker and his sister where two relatives were subsequently stabbed with a steak knife, including Parker.
Parker became angry and hit his sister when another woman related to him tried to intervene.
“The defendant came in and started kicking and tried to stab her with a knife … he moved his hand quickly and she was stabbed in the lips,” Judge Birch said.
The court heard the woman had to “pull the knife out” which “went right through the lips”.
“(She) had to pull the knife out … in doing so she pushed against Parker … that’s when she thinks she may have stabbed the defendant in the leg.”
Judge Birch said it was clear the incident “involved people having too much to drink”.
Parker’s lawyer Jacob Henderson said Parker had been drinking since the age of 14.
Parker was convicted on both charges and given a suspended sentence of 15 months prison with an 18-month good behaviour bond.
