THIS year’s Harts Range Races event saw the largest number of competitors for the campdraft in its 73 years.
Held annually at the Harts Range Racecourse, the races are set in the East MacDonnell Ranges, 215km east of Alice Springs on the Plenty Highway.
The NT August Picnic Races Public Holiday stems from this day, which started at the Harts Range Racecourse more than seven decades ago.

From Friday to Monday, more than 2500 people travelled to Harts Range to enjoy two days of family-friendly activities.
For the competitors, this included four days of campdraft and gymkhana running concurrently.
For the visitors there were stockhorse races, whip-cracking, fashions on the field, rodeos and sporting events including running races, novelty races for kids, a lizard race, ladies cow tail toss and tug of war, evening dances and a talent quest.
The 2022 Harts Range Races will be held from July 29 to August 1.
