Alice Springs has become Australia’s first regional centre to offer COVID-19 vaccinations to anyone over 16 in an effort to get more people jabbed ahead of an expected touristm influx.

The Northern Territory Department of Health opened up vaccinations for more residents.
It is the first regional centre in Australia where this has happened.
There are enough vaccines for 260 doses per day and both AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccinations are available.
The early rollout comes ahead of an anticipated influx of interstate tourists over the June long weekend, where thousands are expected to descend on the region for events including the Finke Desert Race.

A COVID-19 vaccination letter circulating around town which outlines the updated eligibility requirements states NT Health had opened a vaccination clinic for the public on the corner of Gap Road and Stuart Terrace.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner said Alice Springs is the first regional centre in Australia where everyone over 16 can get their COVID-19 vaccination now.
“Alice Springs can be the Australian leaders for the vaccine and show once again Territorians do it best,” Mr Gunner said.
“Roll up your sleeves and get your jab go to covid19appointment.nt.gov.au and book in.
“The vaccine if safe, its free and its effective. Getting your jab not only protects you, it protects your whole community.”
