This Melbourne Cup mare has links to the Red Centre with one owner who calls Alice Springs home

ALICE Springs resident Jamie Aplin will be cheering on the horse he part owns, Oceanex, for the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.
Mr Aplin, who moved to Alice Springs with his wife Sheina two years ago, said the syndicate, Choices Racing, had a 10 per cent share in the five-year-old mare.
The owners will be watching the race from Queensland.

“We couldn’t go to Melbourne to watch so we’ve driven to Mackay, Queensland where my other syndicate members are,” Mr Aplin said.
“We have organised a function at the Mackay Golf Club and have about 80 people attending.”

Oceanex is being ridden by jockey Dean Yendall at Flemington and won her ticket in the race by winning the Andrew Ramsden (2800m) in May.
She is paying $71 for a win at the Melbourne Cup.
