A Top End icon has been crowned a national small business champion.

Estelle Cornell was named a Small Business Champion Woman Icon at the inaugural Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Gala Dinner on November 12.

Ms Cornell said she was overwhelmed and humbled to receive the award.

“I still need to pinch myself,” she said in a Facebook post.

“Anyone in business knows that every day is a challenge and an opportunity.

“We have a dream and we work hard to achieve this.”

Ms Cornell operates three florists across Darwin – Allora Gardens Nursery, Magnolia Flower Merchants, and Estelle’s Florist.

Ms Cornell said the common theme between herself and the night’s other finalists and winners was their passion and commitment to their businesses and community.

“My team in my businesses are my number one asset, without them I wouldn’t be here today,” she said.

“They support me and believe in our goal and for that I say thank you.

“People of Darwin, I am so grateful to you.

“Your support and appreciation for my businesses is the reason I do what I do.”

Ms Cornell has previously committed to raising money for charities such as Beyond Blue

and advised Territory gardeners to stay safe on World Naked Gardening Day.

The awards were presented at The Star in Sydney with more than 1000 guests in attendance.

The Australian Women’s Small Business Champion awards founder Steve Loe said the night was about celebrating “incredible entrepreneurial spirit.”

“Excitedly, we’re seeing more and more women create, and take up leadership positions

throughout the small business community,” Mr Loe said.

“The time has come to accelerate visibility of the incredible entrepreneurial spirit that so many women in small business display.”
