It’s Naked Gardening Day, time to get your hose out and trim your bush

Plenty of Territorians are expected to be pruning the shrubbery minus their jocks today, enjoying the Dry season and getting a good tan while they’re at it.

But it’s not all as glamorous as you would think, with some plants posing serious health risks to more sensitive parts of your body.

Allora Gardens Nursery owner Estelle Cornell said there were some plants to steer clear of if you were planning on donning the birthday suit.

“You don’t want to have cactus or bougainvilleas in there, they will give you a small prick,” she said.

“If you need something to plant today to ensure you’ll have enough shrubbery for next year’s event, plants like murraya, syzygium resilience and many other shrubs are harmless to the body and will allow you to be able to do your gardening naked.”

Fannie Bay resident Toby Stoll said his backyard was perfect for a spot of naked gardening, with plenty of bush to shield him from his neighbours.
