Police want to speak to a woman who talked to an alleged rape victim after she was attacked at the Darwin Esplanade.

The alleged sexual assault occurred between 8.45pm and 9.30pm Monday.

An NT Police spokesman said the woman – who was sent to Royal Darwin Hospital after the alleged incident for assessment – did not know the man who attacked her.

The spokesman said the woman spoke to another female on the corner of Mitchell St and Peel St after the incident.

He said investigators wished to speak with the female, who is described as “caucasian or possible Irish nationality, in her early 20s with brown hair”.

It comes as the 35-year-old man was charged with sexual intercourse without consent and deprivation of liberty.

The spokesman said the man would front the Darwin Local Court on Thursday.
