Woman allegedly raped on Darwin Esplanade, police to charge man

An alleged rapist is expected to be charged after he sexually assaulted a woman on the Darwin Esplanade, police say.

June 11, 2.35pm: A woman who was allegedly raped is being assessed by Royal Darwin Hospital staff.

An NT Police spokesman said a 35-year-old man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman on the Darwin Esplanade between 8.45pm and 9.30pm Monday.

The spokesman said the man had been arrested and police expected to charge the man with sexual intercourse without consent and deprivation of liberty.

He said the pair did not know each other and Sex Crimes Division detectives were still investigating the incident.

The spokesman called on anyone with information to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference P24157106.

Woman allegedly stabbed in neck then abandoned

June 11, 11.40am: A man who allegedly stabbed a woman in the neck and left her to bleed has been charged.

An NT Police spokesman said the 41-year-old man allegedly attacked the woman on Hare St, Moil, about 9pm Saturday.

The spokesman said the man allegedly fled the scene on foot, abandoning the woman he reportedly knew.

He said police arrested the man and charged him with recklessly endanger serious harm.

The spokesman said the man would front the Darwin Local Court on June 25.

He said paramedics treated the 29-year-old woman and took her to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Peak hour crash blocks three lanes of Top End traffic

June 11, 9.55am: A major Top End road has been closed after a crash during the morning rush to work.

An NT Police spokesman said two people were injured in the two-vehicle crash on Hidden Valley Rd on Tuesday.

The crash was reported to police at 8.16am, according to the NT PFES incident map.

The spokesman said both lanes of Hidden Valley Rd and the inbound access lane to Hidden Valley Rd were closed due to the crash, with traffic expected to flow again by 11.30am.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use an alternate route,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman said the person in the second vehicle was uninjured.

He said the crash was still under investigation with the cause yet to be determined.

Man dies near hotel pool after ‘medical episode’

June 11: A man has died during his stay in a Top End hotel.

Northern Watch Commander Clinton Stewart said the man in his mid-70s had a “medical episode” about 4.45pm Monday.

Sergeant Stewart said the man had been in the pool area of the Cavenagh St Travelodge Resort at the time of the incident.

He said police understood the incident likely sparked concerns from people who may have been in the area.

Sergeant Stewart said police and paramedics attended the scene and administered CPR to the man, but he was declared dead at the scene.

People trapped after single vehicle rollover

June 10: Four people have been rescues after being trapped after their car rolled in Virginia.

St John NT Territory Response Manager Craig Garraway said paramedics responded to the single vehicle rollover on the Stuart Hwy about 2am Sunday.

Mr Garraway said he understood the car veered across a culvert and hit a water pipe before it “ended up on the other side of the road”, trapping people inside.

He said fireys were called in to free the car’s occupants after the crash.

Mr Garraway said two people were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital, one in a critical condition and one with serious injuries.

He said the other two occupants suffered minor injuries.

According to the NT Police, Fire, and Emergency Services incident map, the crash took place near the Bow Hunters Rd intersection.

NT Police have been contacted for comment.
