Alice Springs residents were treated to Australian music royalty at the weekend as they marked the one year countdown to the Alice Springs Masters Games.
The Warm-Up festival at Anzac Oval hosted Paul Kelly, Steph Strings and the James Range Band on Saturday night.
The event also featured a Colour Frenzy fun run and the Red Centre Mile to get locals excited about the athletic prowess coming to town in 12 months.
The normally biennial games are scheduled for October 12-19 next year, and will be first time the event has run since 2018.
Major Events Minister Paul Kirby said the support of last week’s event showed people were looking forward to the 2024 games.
“Registrations opened at the Warm-Up that attracted nearly 4500 attendees to enjoy a great range of activities,” he said.
“The ASMG is a well-loved event with almost 30 sporting competitions on offer and it attracts people to Alice Springs from all over Australia.”
The ASMG were postponed in 2020 due to Covid, initially meant to return in 2022.
But uncertainty around the pandemic that year forced it to be pushed back to 2023, when it was rescheduled to 2024 because of a lack of event staff.
