THERE were medals won and new records set but the biggest winner from the week of the Alice Springs Masters Games has been Alice Springs.
Mayor Damien Ryan said all in all these have been a wonderful Games. is very happy how the Games have run.
“I have received a lot of compliments from returning and first-time participants about the Games,” he said.
“It all shows people are enjoying competition more and these are a serious Games and not just a party.
“These Games are a worthwhile experience for local people and visitors alike.
“It was good to see the lights still on down the mall. They have been a talking point with the visitors.”
Alana Richardson, the executive officer of the Chamber of Commerce Northern Territory, said from the members point of view the Masters Games are very valuable to our local economy.
She said the participants and their friends and family travel from all over Australia and bring with them their sense of adventure and excitement.
“The town buzzes with excitement and we just love to see everyone enjoying our town,” Ms Richardson said.
“From verbal reports from members the accommodations are full, the cafes and restaurants are busy and I’m sure there are retail outlets that are reaping the benefits of all these extra people in Alice.
“All the visitors that I have spoken to all say how friendly and accommodating our locals are.
“Overall it’s a massive benefit to our region.”
The Games closed on Saturday with the closing ceremony.
