That’s not a knife. It’s a brand new beer celebrating one of Australian cinema’s most famous one-liners.

Alice Springs Brewing Co has paid homage to Mick Dundee, the loveable Territorian who put the Top End on the map across the globe, with a limited release of beers celebrating the endlessly quoted line.

The “Knife Beers” series includes the That’s Not a Knife IPA and the This is a Knife IIPA, drawing straight from Dundee’s line in the hit 1986 film.

In the now-famous scene, Dundee is threatened by a man with a knife demanding his wallet before pulling out his own much larger blade and telling the would-be robber: “That’s not a knife. This is a knife.”

Touching on the inspiration for the beer, Alice Springs Brewing Co co-founder Kyle Pearson said he idolised Dundee as a child.

“Mick Dundee was my hero as a kid,” he said.

“Here at Alice Springs Brewing Co we hate cliches … and stereotypes – unless we are shamelessly marketing them.”

Head brewer Kyle Jum Ryan said the beers “impart a medley of tropical aromas reminiscent of the NT’s Top End”.

The beers, which pack a punch at 6.5 per cent and 8.5 per cent alcohol, will be available for purchase from Alice Springs Brewing Co directly or through the brewery’s online store from 12pm Friday, December 16.
