The Red Centre community is banding together on the McHappiest day of the year – hoping to smash a record set last year by the Alice Springs McDonalds.
November 16 is McHappy Day, where McDonalds restaurants around the country raise money for the fast food chain’s charity the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Last year, Alice Springs McDonalds raised $24,885 on the day – the highest amount raised by any Maccas in the country – and this year franchise owners Mat and Chloe Peters are looking to top it.
“It was wonderful to see our community come together last year to be so generous with their time and donations and raise much needed funds for the important work done by Ronald McDonald House Charities,” they said.
“So many people in our community have used Ronald McDonald House or know someone who has; McHappy Day, for us is about coming together to raise the funds needed for this charity to be able to continue to grow its support for our community.”
This year, police, fireys, nursing staff and some pollies have jumped on board to help the crew smash the fundraising record.
Ronald McDonald House Charities south and central chief executive Melissa Monkhouse visited Alice Springs in the lead up to McHappy Day.
“We understand the unique challenges faced by Central Australian families who must travel to Alice Springs to give birth and receive medical care for their children,” she said.
“Our programs are designed to support the entire family during challenging times, offering a range of services to meet their diverse needs.”
Merchandise will be available will be available for purchase on McHappy Day, with $2 from every Big Mac sold going directly towards the Ronald McDonald house.
