‘A wonderful job’: first COVID-19 vaccine administered in Central Australia

TODD Facility pandemic co-ordinator Reinier Cadacio became the first person in Central Australia to receive the COVID-19 vaccination yesterday.

The jab was delivered at Alice Springs Hospital’s Vaccination Clinic just after 1pm by renal nurse Christine Fabre.

“I personally experienced the loss of a family member in the Philippines (due to coronavirus),” Ms Fabre said.

She said the tragic loss was why she volunteered to deliver the first dose, to be an advocate for the vaccination rollout.

“It was a big toll on me with this coronavirus,” Ms Fabre said.

“But we’re going to get through this. We just need to take this one day at a time.”

Mr Cabacio said he thought Ms Fabre did “a wonderful job” of administering the vaccine.

He also had a succinct message for anyone who was hesitant about receiving the jab.

“I’m still alive. So to anyone who’s afraid of getting vaccine, I’m feeling okay.”
