TWO weeks after investigations began, no charges have been laid over a horror crash which killed a 7-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man on Tiger Brennan Dr.

Mehali Anastasios Pastrikos, 7, and Wade Williams, 21, died in the crash at the intersection of Tiger Brennan Dr and Berrimah Rd about midnight on Wednesday, May 22.

In the immediate aftermath of the crash, Infrastructure Minister Eva Lawler announced the Government would lower the speed limit at the intersection of Tiger Brennan Dr and Berrimah Rd from 100km/h to 80km/h.

But the 80km/h section of the road has now been shortened after the Government copped heavy criticism for the move. The 80km/h stretch was yesterday reduced from about 2.4km immediately after the crash to about 1km.

A statement from the Government via NT Road Report said “the length of the new speed zones has been reviewed and can be shortened without impacting safe traffic movements.

“New signs will be in place from that time and motorists are advised to observe and adhere to the speed limits and drive with due care and attention.”

An infrastructure department spokesman said the department planned to install red light and speed cameras at the notorious intersection to improve safety.

Commenters on Facebook posted largely in support of the shortened 80km/h zone.

“The 80km/h zone is far too long for a questionable outcome,” posted Mark Taylor.

“Speed/red light cameras at the intersection would be far more useful … Above all, motorists need to be educated that a yellow light does not mean ‘drive faster’.”

“They could make it 10km/h. People will still run the reds,” Kim Linke posted on the matter.
