TIGER Brennan Drive has reopened to traffic after a major crash that killed two people this morning

UPDATED: Tiger Brennan Drive has reopened to traffic after a major crash that killed two people this morning.

Two people have been killed and a man aged 42, and woman aged 24, are in hospital being assessed after the crash which happened at the intersection of Tiger Brennan Dr and Berrimah Rd about midnight.

NT Police said Major Crash investigators had now concluded assessing the accident scene and further updates would be provided as more information becomes available.

Some traffic diversions still remain in place and police have asked all motorists to continue to heed all directions from traffic control personnel on the scene.

“We would also like to thank the public for their patience during this morning’s peak traffic time,” NT Police said in a statement.

“NTPFES would like to thank the public for their patience.”

EARLIER: Traffic is expected to be diverted for the rest of the morning as Major Crash Investigations assess the scene of a double fatal crash.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Tiger Brennan Dr and Berrimah Rd about midnight.

Two people a woman aged 24 and a man aged 42, are currently in the emergency department at Royal Darwin Hospital undergoing assessment.

Commuters this morning face lengthy delays and are urged to avoid the area.

Tiger Brennan Dr is closed between Tivendale Rd and Amy Johnson Ave.

Berrimah Rd is closed between Wishart Rd and Marlow Rd.

Police said the closures are expected to remain in place throughout peak traffic times this morning and they asked motorists to be patient and follow all directions from traffic control personnel.
