A 45-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a car, marking the second road death in the Territory this year.
NT Police Northern Watch Commander Sean Patterson said the woman was walking on Bagot Rd when she was hit by a car at 8.55pm on Wednesday.
Commander Patterson said the 73-year-old male driver was travelling towards Casuarina when the tragedy occurred.
“The driver stopped, as did a number of other cars, and rendered assistance” he said.
“Emergency services attended, and she was declared deceased at the scene.”
Commander Patterson said police tested the driver for alcohol and he returned a negative result.
He said the Major Crash Investigation Unit attended and seized the man’s car as part of the ongoing investigation.
NT Police said the crash was near the Bagot Rd and Nemarluk Dr intersection and traffic diversions were no longer in place.
The woman’s death is the second for 2023 on Territory roads.
In 2022, 52 people were killed in road tragedies across the NT.
