TERRITORIANS are not letting today’s wet weather put a dampener on their Australia Day celebrations, with hundreds of events happening across the NT including fun runs, ute racing and pie eating competitions.

Australia Day: If not January 26, then when?

TERRITORIANS are not letting today’s wet weather put a dampener on their Australia Day celebrations.

In fact, nine-year-old Bronte Bellot is thrilled that she gets to do the annual OzRun fun run in Darwin in the rain.

“It’s nice because it’s cooler,” she said.

“I just like being a part of it.”

Kicking off at 7am at the Darwin Convention Centre, OzRun is the largest running event in the Northern Territory.

Participants can choose to run either a 2.5km or a 5km course to ensure everyone is socially distanced.

Both courses finish at Fiddler’s Green at the Darwin Waterfront.

Bronte said she hoped to beat her personal best time today.

“I just want to have fun but also get a good time,” she said.

“Then just spend time with my family.”

For those who are not keen on an early morning run, there are hundreds of Australia Day celebrations taking place across the Territory involving everything from ute racing to pie eating competitions.
