Barra Toss, pie eating contest among Australia Day activities on offer in Darwin

OF all the traditional Australia Day activities, the Barra Toss is perhaps the most ironically Territorian - and it’s back this year.

OF all the traditional Australia Day activities, the Barra Toss is perhaps the most ironically Territorian.

The Darwin Trailer Boat Club and Mix 104.9 will be hosting the annual Barra Toss competition as well as a schooner race, pie eating competition and a whip cracking demonstration from the whip legend himself – Mick Denigan.

Mix 104.9 announcer Andrew Thain will be on air for most of the shenanigans, but said he was looking forward to getting involved.

“It’s a fantastic day,” he said.

“We’re so privileged here in the NT that we can have large get-togethers like this on our national day.”
