Stop the presses: Big fat croc spotted at Cahills Crossing
An unusually chunky crocodile was spotted lounging around at one of the Territory’s most infamous croc cantinas.

HUNDREDS of crocs waddle through Cahills Crossing each year but none as chunky as this fella.
Tourists Courtney Hudd and Thomas Lyon said the hefty beast appeared after the tide came in.
“It was just staring at everyone,” Mr Lyon said.

“On the first day we went (to Cahills) we only saw normal sized ones. We thought they were big — this one overpowered them all.”
The couple said people marvelled at the croc’s size for about 10 minutes before it had a feed and slithered away.

University of NSW School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences Professor Mike Letnic estimated the croc was between 300kg and 400kg.
“Most of the time we only see their heads on the water don’t do full reveal,” he said.
“It gives you real perspective on how big he is and how dangerous.”
