Shopper gets more than they bargained for in Bunnings item

“Who knows how long the little guy has actually been in there for.”

The $35 Beach Umbrella Everyone’s Rushing to Bunnings For!

An Aussie has taken to Reddit after spotting something peculiar in a bag of soil they purchased from Bunnings.

Whilst they may have expected a few veggies and herbs in the Scotts Osmocote Plus Organics planting mix, this was more than a little out of the ordinary - and has left people debating as to what they should do next.

“Surely this is some form of animal abuse!”

An Aussie Reddit user has taken to the platform to share their shocking find in a bag of Scotts Osmocote Plus Organics planting mix - a live frog.

“Surely this is some form of animal abuse,” the post said.

“Who knows how long the little guy has actually been in there for.”

Fellow Reddit users were able to point out that the frog, pictured perched on top of the soil, still inside the bag, is likely a striped marsh frog - a large and predominantly aquatic frog native to coastal Eastern Australia, and a common species in urban habitats.

What would you do?

Many commenters on the post took a more lighthearted approach to their response, cracking jokes about the frog spotted in this unlikely place.

“Just like a cereal packet, that is your prize,” one said.

“It does say “plus organics”. Frogs are organic,” joked another.

“He's an employee. Checking it for quality. Keep your eye out for a tiny red apron,” said a third.

But, others were taking the Redditor’s find much more seriously.

“I would send the supplier a message. That poor frogo, glad it didn't get too hot in there,” said one commenter.

“Hmm potential biosecurity risk right there,” said another.

“Best to contact supplier and find location of source and touch base with wildlife carers/govt department about releasing in original environment. Frogs can carry chytrid fungus which can decimate populations if it is spread,” said a third.

Unfortunately, by the time the poster saw the comments, they noted they had ‘chucked [the frog] down by the river’, so was unable to do anything further.

But, if this happens to you - try to identify it and pinpoint a location first before letting it go.
