Heatwaves could make Sydney unliveable within decades

THE Top End has shivered through some of its coldest mornings of the year so far, with Darwin’s rural area dropping down to 13 degrees on Tuesday morning.

Bureau of Meteorology Senior Forecaster Billy Lynch said low humidity and south-easterly winds meant Darwin has really been feeling the chill over the last few days.

“We always get the cool nights when we get the south-easterly winds because it brings up the dry air from Central Australia,” Mr Lynch said.

He said the minimum temperatures in Darwin have dropped below 20 for the last three consecutive days. hovering between 17 and 18C.

However, he said because of the windchill factor, it felt like 15C in Darwin on Tuesday morning.

Mr Lynch said the rest of the week is set to warm up.

“We’re forecasting (a minimum) of 19C tomorrow morning (Wednesday)”,” he said.

“It’s going to be a bit warmer again for the rest of the week, probably above 20.”

Finnish backpacker, Belle Webb, did not see what all the fuss was about.

“It’s so hot,” she said.

“I feel like if it was even a bit hotter than this I would be dying.”

“One degree more would be too much,” English backpacker Mollie Anderson added.
