THE DoubleTree by Hilton’s dome rooftop boasts some of the best vistas in the country, with views of Darwin’s famous sunset on one side and the storms rolling in over the suburbs from the other.

They are views all Top End visitors and locals could soon take full advantage of, with a bold dream to establish Darwin’s first genuine skyscraper rooftop bar and function space in the dome.

DoubleTree Hotels NT cluster manager Todd Grierson said it was an aspirational dream but said it was something he wanted to become a part of his legacy.

“It’s a very unique space in Darwin CBD, there’s not a lot of hotels or buildings you could have as a rooftop bar,” Mr Grierson said.

“It’s too good a space to hide away from the people of Darwin.”

But Mr Grierson said the economic impact of COVID-19 had likely pushed it further into the future, with the business relying on investors or potential partners to make it a reality.

“It can work as a function space and separate wedding venue, you wouldn’t need a lot of capital investment to turn it into that – that’s something we’ve tossed around before,” he said.

Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce said the plan would help modernise the city’s night-life and attract more tourists to the Top End.
