THOUSANDS went troppo at Darwin’s first ever Mango Madness Festival at the Darwin Waterfront today

THOUSANDS went troppo at Darwin’s first ever Mango Madness Festival at the Darwin Waterfront yesterday, embracing on of the Top End’s favourite foods.

While many enjoyed cooking demonstrations from some of Darwin’s top chefs, Mojtaba Behrami’s eating skills were realised, knocking off two mangoes in less than a minute in the adult mango eating competition.

“I normally eat a lot anyway and whenever my parents bring mangoes home I eat at least three, it doesn’t matter what size,” he said.

“The festival is a great initiative, it’s my first time in Darwin and it’s great to see this happening.”

Other’s indulged in Dom’s Bar’s Territory-tini – the winner of the mango cup, and other mango inspired food and drinks.

Escaping the heat, Jess Munn, Alex Weekley, Kenny Stewart and Jaiden Ramm enjoyed fruiting around in the Waterfront Lagoon and thought the festival was a great way to showcase the delicacy.

“It shows Darwin’s culture, anywhere you go you’ll see all these mangoes and they’re from Darwin, for Darwin to celebrate mangoes like this is pretty good,” Ms Weekley said.

“Fresh mango is my favourite, just being able to open it and eat it the way you want to.”
