ONE year ago, Beaver Brewery’s first barrel of beer was brewed as owner Chris Brown stepped into the unknown, chasing his brewing dream.
Now his local haunt is bustling with customers, beyond his wildest dreams.
“It’s better than we ever thought it would be. There was a stigma that no one in Darwin liked craft beer but that’s definitely not the case,” Mr Brown said.

“Everyone’s appreciating what we’re doing and getting behind us and showing support, so it’s fantastic.”
While many businesses have felt the brunt of the poor economy, Mr Brown was happy with how his business had thrived in its first 12 months.
“We have felt the brunt because our wholesale side relies on other pubs and clubs. They’ve been slow so we’ve slowed down that side,” he said.

“We’ve been very grateful to get to where we are, many businesses don’t last the first year. We’re happy and hopefully the economy moves up a bit and helps all businesses, not just ours.”

Beaver Brewery is celebrating their first anniversary on Friday with shirts and 100 free stubby coolers to give away, the Beachfront Hotel’s Smokey J’s BBQ on site for a feed and Yenz entertainment keeping the kids occupied.
