A SHARK has attacked a man at the popular Nightcliff jetty on Saturday night.

St John Ambulance Territory duty manager Craig Garraway said he was unaware whether the man was fishing or standing in the water.

“The shark attack happened Saturday night about 7.30 I believe around the Nightcliff jetty area,” he said.

“He’s been attacked by what appears to be a small shark to the leg.”

The man was transported to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

“He had a number of lacerations to the leg which required him to be taken to hospital,” Mr Garraway said.

“He probably needs stitches as a result of that.”
