Aussie mum shamed in Woolies for 'sad' reason

"I'm still shaking. Why do people think this is okay?"

Mum shamed in Woolies or sad reason

An Aussie mum was out grocery shopping with her baby when an older man made a rude comment, leaving her taken aback.

Emma Diedrichs took to TikTok to explain what happened.

"It's Sunday, the supermarket's busy, even getting a park is a nightmare," Emma recalls in the now-viral clip.

"So I'm walking all the way across the shopping centre car park, getting to Woolies, get a trolley, putting my one-year-old in the trolley seat, and this old man has the audacity, AUDACITY, to say to me, you're a mum, you shouldn't be wearing that."

"I'm still shaking"

She then steps back to show her followers the outfit she's wearing, which is the same one the man shamed her for — shorts and a white top that shows about two inches of her midriff.

"I didn't even think this was that bad," she admits. "Mate, the audacity. I cannot believe somebody just mum-shamed me or even commented on what I was wearing 'as a mum'."

Emma says it shouldn't matter if she's a mum or just a regular person, "no one should ever comment on what anyone is wearing." She also speculated that the man might not have made the comment if she had been with her partner at the time, but she was targeted because she was alone.

"I was just like 'hahaha' and walked off," she revealed. "But I'm still shaking."

"Nothing wrong with what you're wearing"

Emma received thousands of sympathetic comments, with many agreeing that the man was out of line.

"I’m a mum. If I had a body like yours, I would be wearing exactly that. You look amazing," said one.

"How dare he!!" a second claimed.

Another asked: "Why is it when I'm by myself with my kid, I'm constantly told I'm doing this or that wrong as soon as my husband is around he's doing such a good job/no one would say a word? You look amazing, by the way."

"Umm what!? As mums we are still allowed to wear things we feel comfortable and feel confident going out in! There's nothing wrong with what you're wearing!!!" a different commenter pointed out.

Then others shared their go-to responses for similar incidents. "I had this happen to me and I just said ‘Oh did you not take your medication this morning?’ And kept walking."

"I look them dead in the eye and say a little loudly, 'Did you just say that out loud?'" another mum revealed.
