It’s difficult to outshine Ryan Gosling on the big screen, but the city of Sydney gives it a red hot crack in the action-packed trailer for his upcoming movie.

Universal Pictures released a first look at Gosling’s The Fall Guy, which didn’t go under the radar when it filmed in Australia in late 2022 and early 2023, shutting down the Harbour Bridge for several days of production and taking over the iconic Opera House strip.

In the three-minute trailer, we get a glimpse at the high-octane stunt filmed on the bridge, which shows Gosling’s character holding onto the back of a speeding truck.

The Fall Guy – an adaptation of a ‘80s TV series – follows retired film stuntman Colt Seavers (Gosling), who is lured back to work for a mega-budget studio movie which is being directed by his ex-girlfriend, Jody Moreno (Blunt).

There’s also a missing movie star plot twist in the midst, with Colt finding himself embroiled in a real-life criminal plot as the search for the star deepens.

Gosling also filmed dramatic scenes in Martin Place in November 2022, which can bee seen briefly in the trailer.

The Canadian actor’s wife Eva Mendes, along with their two young daughters, based themselves in Sydney for several months during filming.

The high-profile were spotted multiple times during their stint down under, with Mendes photographed at a park in Rose Bay, trick-or-treating with her kids and an incognito Gosling on Halloween in Bondi, and shopping in Paddington in November.

Speaking to news.com.au at the time, Mendes said the wildlife had been the biggest culture shock, after facing off with a huntsman spider which she documented on Instagram.

“This thing was huge. It was crazy,” she said. “I just started screaming like a psycho.”

Mendes said even Gosling, who she described as having a calm energy, was startled.

“I don’t usually speak for him but I can say he was definitely shocked by its size and ability to move so quickly,” she laughed.

Mendes said she had enjoyed flying under the radar while down under.

“Australians are so cool, and just so warm and we feel so welcomed,” she said.

The Fall Guy isn’t the only buzzy movie that Sydney has played a role in of late.

The trailer for Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s upcoming romantic comedy, Anyone But You, was released in October, and featured the harbour city so heavily it resembled a Destination NSW ad.
