The Territory has long been famous for its sporting heroes. And now we can write large the name of yet another legend after a long-standing, monster 1.5kg burger-eating challenge was absolutely destroyed!

Unconquered 1.5kg burger eating challenge totally destroyed!

THE Territory has long been famous for the number of sporting heroes it produces. And now we can write large the name of yet another.

Isaac Harding-Davis — who is so far ahead of his competition in his own field of achievement that it seems almost unfair — managed to accomplish something that nobody had been able to do in the Territory before.

That is, smash down a massive, delicious, oozing, carnivore-craving, beer carton-sized 1.5kg burger in under 10 minutes at District North Kitchen in Palmerston.

Not only did Harding-Davis break the record, he devoured it, finishing the challenge in an astonishing four minutes and 42 seconds.

Admittedly, he did have some form.

Harding-Davis is a former pro-eater — and a Guiness world record holder.

On Thursday night, at District North Kitchen, he came out of retirement to take on a challenge set by the eatery— which specialises in ridiculously large burgers.

But it wasn’t all smooth going for the champion chomper.

“I actually choked in the first 20 seconds, I’ve never choked in a challenge,” Harding-Davis said.

“It definitely slowed me down in the first few minutes but once I found my rhythm I managed to finish under five minutes, which was my goal.”

The eater extraordinaire used to consume 40 to 50 Weet-Bix in a day when he was younger.

“When I felt like it, I’d get really hungry and go on a bit of binge,” he said

After being retired for three years, the former pro-eater was happy with his performance on the night.

“Once I found my rhythm I managed to finish under five minutes which was my goal,” he said.

“My mates really helped me power through and get it done.”

District North Kitchen owner Dhanushka Marasingha said no one had ever come close to beating the 10-minute challenge.

“It was something special, I haven’t seen that before,” Mr Marasingha said.

Harding-Davis said he felt immense relief finishing the challenge and thanked District North kitchen for having him.

“One of the most delicious burger challenges I’ve ever eaten,” he said.

“I want people to go in and try to beat my record or just see if they can complete the burger.”

And for smashing the magical 10-minute mark the maestro muncher is not only 1.5kg heavier now, he’s also $1000 richer.

“When Isaac said he could finish it in under 10 minutes I said I would put a cash prize in,” Mr Marasingha said.

The closest anyone has ever gotten to finishing the burger in 10 minutes took half an hour.

EARLIER: WHEN you think of an athlete, the first sport that comes to mind normally isn’t pro-eating.

Known for their enormous burger eating challenges, the District North Kitchen has attracted a former number one Australian pro-eater champion to their table.

Though now retired, Isaac Harding-Davis said he came out of retirement to compete in the 1.5kg burger challenge.

“So what we do as competitive eaters, we’ll mix up the way we eat,” Harding-Davis said.

In avoidance of “flavour fatigue” there is a strategy to consuming insane amounts of food in incredibly short amounts of time, pro-eaters break the burger down into sections.

“I’ll start with the beef, then eat the bun and then vegetables.
“It’s just really designed so I can combat that flavour fatigue,” he said.

Owner of District North Kitchen Dhanushka Marasingha said he was speechless when he found out a pro-eater wanted to compete at his shop.

“When Isaac said he could finish it in under 10 minutes I said I would put a cash prize in,” Mr Marasingha said.

The closest anyone has ever gotten to finishing the burger in 10 minutes took half an hour.

“People normally take well over an hour to finish this burger,” he said.
