The annual Australia Day challenge, which has brought prawn-peeling and pavlova’s to the table, is open to 10 contestants who fancy themselves as nug-aholics, with the first to down their share taking home a loot of prizes.
Hotel Darwin bartender Amy George will be the staff’s representative in the competition and said the universal appeal of nuggets made them a good choice for the competition.
“They’re such a go-to snack and for me, if I’m drunk they’re my number one thing to go to,” she said.
“I absolutely love chicken nuggets so I was like let’s do this and then I can prove a point to everyone.”

Ms George hopes past experience in food contests will work in her favour.
“I don’t know (how long it will take me) to be fair, I’m just going to wing it and see how I go,” she said.
“I’ve also done the chilli eating contest last year and came third in that so hopefully I’ll finish top three in this as well.
“Hopefully it’ll mean I have bragging rights over everyone while I work here.”
