Student repeatedly punches another Palmerston College

VIDEO has surfaced of a student repeatedly punching a peer at Palmerston College.

The video, sent to the NT News, was filmed in October, and shows a student walking up to another in a classroom while others watch on.

The first student pauses before landing a series of punches on the victim, who attempts to cover her face.

A staff member then pulls the students apart and the video ends.

A caption in the video read: “See that’s what you get for talking sh*t about me and (name) and all the caz girls also other people.”

It is understood the video was circulated on social media before being removed.

A relative of the 13-year-old victim, who did not want to be named, said it wasn’t the first time she had been targeted, and she feared for her safety during school breaks.

“Maybe some kids need to be expelled, because they’re going to school to make trouble, not to get an education,” she said.

It is understood the incident was not reported to police and that the student was suspended.

“The safety of students and staff is of the utmost importance, and that is why Palmerston College is working with the parents of each of the students involved, and we are assisting as appropriate.

“Violence and bullying of any kind is not condoned in our schools, and the department takes these matters very seriously.”

The spokeswoman said the school had a range of initiatives, including wellbeing lessons each week, which focused on social and emotional learning.
