MAJOR hotel chain Quest has lodged a development application to build a new hotel in Darwin’s CBD.
The proposal outlines the plan to build 48 serviced apartments over the five-level building, with its own cafe on the ground floor.
If approved, it would become the third Quest hotel in the Top End, with hotels already established in Berrimah and Palmerston.
The proposed site is at number 13 Daly Street, with frontage to Daly and Smith streets.
A total of 80 carparks have been included in the site plan, including 62 on the first floor and 18 on the ground floor.
“The site is largely flat and unconstrained and contains existing crossovers on both the Daly Street and Smith Street frontages,” the application, compiled by local planning firm Tropics Consultancy Group, states.
“The site has a history of development permits, although not enacted.”
The development also boasts a “generous” communal open space including a spa, pool, outdoor barbecue area and gym.
A conference room would also be built on the ground floor with a commercial tenancy for a proposed cafe at the corner of the building.
The Quest hotel in Berrimah came under fire recently after several tourists had their bookings cancelled at the last minute to make way for a major NT Health booking, with a number of people unable to find alternative accommodation.
The Health Department booked the entire hotel last month, purportedly to house workers from the Howard Springs quarantine facility.
Quest Apartments apologised for the sudden cancellations in a statement on June 4. “We recognise the legitimate concerns raised by impacted guests and are working around the clock to make it right,” a Quest spokeswoman said.

“A dedicated Quest Apartment Hotels team is methodically working through a list of cancellations, consulting with individuals on a one-to-one basis to offer alternate accommodation or redress.”
The new development would fill the gap for a more central hotel after Quest’s Parap branch was forced to close in March.
An email sent to a customer in response to a booking request and seen by the NT News says the hotel would cease operating from March 19 because of a problem with its lease.
“We are unable to accommodate your booking for the nights you are originally booked for,” the email reads.
“The Quest Parap is closing down permanently because the lease agreement for the hotel has been cancelled.”
Public comment is being sought until July 9.
