US Election 2020: Extremely close in Pennsylvania which could decide winner

Donald Trump’s lead is collapsing in a crucial state which could be the election decider. It’s Donald Trump’s last hope of re-election.

Trump declares “red wave” in 2020 election: 'If you count the legal votes, I win'

Joe Biden is just 53,000 votes behind Donald Trump in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as he continues to catch up ground.

Donald Trump was leading by more than 600,000 just 36 hours ago but his lead has steadily dropped since then as Biden mail-in votes are added to the tally.

The result could be called today.

If Mr Trump loses Pennsylvania, his remaining paths to the White House will vanish.

Pennsylvania offers up the biggest haul of electoral votes – a total of 20 – from the remaining states hanging in the balance.

As it stands, Biden has 264 election votes and Mr Trump with 214. But that includes the 11 votes in Arizona, that has only been called by Fox News and AP.

Whoever gets 270 electoral college votes will become the next president.

If Mr Biden was to claim Pennsylvania, he would have enough votes. That’s even without Arizona, where Mr Biden’s narrow lead is continuing to drop.

The latest count in Pennsylvania has Mr Trump with 3,270,295 (49.8%) votes and Mr Biden with 3,217,079 (48.9%). An estimated 94% of the vote has been counted so far.

In 2016, Mr Trump won Pennsylvania by 44,292 votes out of more than six million cast, a difference of 0.72 per cent and the narrowest margin in a presidential election for the state in 176 years. He was the first Republican to win a presidential contest in the state since 1988.

Most of the remaining votes are mail-in ballots which are understood to favour Joe Biden.

Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Kathy Boockvar said election workers could finish tallying “the overwhelming majority” today and have a clear winner.

Mail-in ballots continue to arrive in the state where the law allows election officials to receive and count all mail-in ballots that arrive by Friday.

As the count continues, lawyers for the Trump campaign, including the President’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, have descended on the state to mount court challenges.

Republicans have filed multiple lawsuits, questioning how voters were notified of issues with mail-in ballots and allowed to cast provisional ballots.

A judge agreed to allow Republican observers to stand 2m away from officials as ballots are processed. Mr Guiliani claimed observers were being kept as far as 10m away.

STATES STILL IN THE GAME

These are the states left to play for:

Pennsylvania (20 electoral votes at stake)

Georgia (16 electoral votes at stake)

Arizona (11 electoral votes at stake) – but as I mentioned that’s been called for Biden by AP and Fox

Nevada (6 electoral votes at stake)

North Carolina (15 electoral votes at stake)

Alaska (three electoral votes at stake)
