Melania Trump launches unusual attack on Joe Biden in final speech
First Lady Melania Trump has launched an attack on Democratic candidate Joe Biden in her final campaign speech before the election.
The First Lady of the United States Melania Trump has given an unusual speech, lashing out at the Democratic Candidate Joe Biden before the election on Tuesday.
In an uncharacteristically divisive speech in Huntersville, North Carolina, Mrs Trump drew clear party lines, lashing out at “rioters and looters” amid recent disorder in US cities, and asking “where were the Democrats?”.
The First Lady also claimed supporters and staff of her husband, US President Donald Trump, have felt afraid and intimidated, blaming what she called the “supposedly tolerant left”.
“When rioters and looters were burning our cities and wrecking small businesses that belong to hard working families and bring jobs to our communities, where were the Democrats?” Mrs Trump asked a crowd of about 250.
“Why should we trust Joe Biden when he suggests he can do a better job,” she asked. “All you have to do is look back on his 47 years in political life to determine whether you think he is suddenly capable of putting the American people first.”

The First Lady went on to claim Mr Trump’s supporters had felt frightened to show support for the President, and his staff had been treated badly by the “supposedly tolerant left”.
“Because of acts of intolerance and even violence, honest and hardworking Americans are sometimes afraid to put Trump signs in their yards,” the First Lady told the crowd.
“Members of our White House staff have been thrown out of restaurants just for serving their country. Even big tech companies are now politically censoring us. All this from the supposedly tolerant left.”
Mrs Trump also made comments about the coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 231,000 US citizens, and infected more than 9.2 million people across the US.

She claimed the media, and her husband’s political opponents, had politicised the global pandemic. Mrs Trump recently contracted coronavirus during an outbreak at the White House, which hospitalised Mr Trump.
“The Democrats, together with the media, have attempted to make COVID-19 the most politically charged, polarising, and divisive topic of the last decade,” she said. “Instead of working with our administration to unify and protect our nation, they only sought to attack us.”
The First Lady will cast her vote in Palm Beach in Florida on election day on Tuesday.
