Surprise outfits that got these women kicked off a plane

From flashy crop tops to plunging necklines, bare feet and short shorts – what people wear at 38,000 feet has caused more than a little turbulence this year.

Are women being told to cover up their bodies more?

From flashy crop tops to plunging necklines, to short shorts and no shoes – there’s been plenty of eyebrow-raising outfits witnessed at 38,000 feet.

With travel returning to pre-pandemic levels across the country – and the world – there was plenty of incidents in the air to keep cabin crew busy.

Cast your mind back to January, when most of us were trying to work off the Christmas ham and gear up for another year of work ahead – one former beauty queen ruffled a few feathers with a cropped outfit that almost got her banned from boarding a flight.

Model and former Miss Universe winner Olivia Culpo was left humiliated after ground staff told the 29-year-old to “cover up” before boarding a flight with her sister and partner.

The stunning model and her sister, Aurora, documented the incident on social media as the pair – along with Culpo’s partner Christian McCaffrey – prepared to fly to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico to escape North America’s winter chill.

Despite Ms Culpo’s sister describing the model’s outfit as “cute” and appropriate” – American Airlines staff said she couldn’t board the plane unless she covered up her black pair of bike shorts and matching crop.

After covering up, the Culpo sisters along with Mr McCaffrey were able to fly to their destination. Although it was a chilly journey for Ms Culpo’s boyfriend – who was “freezing” on the flight without his hoodie after having given it to his partner.

In an attempt to lighten the situation, Aurora posted screenshots of where people can shop for Olivia’s outfit, calling it the “get kicked off @americanair starter kit”.

It wasn’t the only time a famous name got pulled aside by cabin crew because of their outfit.

Boarding a flight a little closer to home, Former Love Island Australia star Amelia Marni lashed out at budget airline Jetstar, accusing the airline of “sl*t shaming”.

The influencer, who has more than 320k followers on social media, was wearing a black crop top and khaki pants when a male flight attendant allegedly asked her to “cover up” as her clothing was “too revealing”.

Taking to Instagram at the time of the incident, the influencer captioned her story with “we love a sl*t shame moment” before going into detail about how the male flight attendant allegedly said her outfit was “inappropriate” to wear on board a Jetstar flight.

The brunette said she was “embarrassed” by the “mean confrontation” and felt singled out, especially after approaching a female flight attendant who said her outfit was fine.

Jetstar released a statement after the exchange went viral, outlining that while the airline has “basic dress requirements on our flights” – they “do not have any policy regarding crop tops”.

“We apologise if there’s been any misunderstanding of our policy.”

Crop tops, while a wardrobe staple for some, really tend to cause a headache for some travellers – including this TikToker boarding a flight in the US.

A woman, who goes by the name @badbish1078 on the social media platform, slammed Alaska Airlines earlier this year after claiming she was shamed over her choice of outfit.

Posting a video of her outfit online, the woman showed off what she got in trouble for with the caption: “Alaska Airlines just told me I had to ‘cover up’ if I wanted to get on the plane”.

She panned her camera down to reveal her outfit – a midriff low-cut tank top and frayed denim shorts.

The woman claims she refused the request, however didn’t go into detail about how she managed to board the plane as a result.

People who viewed the video were furious she was singled out for the outfit, with some saying the decision to call out her attire was “ridiculous”

But while planes tend to attract the most attention – and outrage – when it comes to eyebrow-raising outfits, there was plenty of action on the ground for holiday-makers.

A woman who visited Walt Disney World Resort in May says she was “dress-coded” by theme park staff.

Content creator Nicole DeLosReyes took a Mother’s Day family trip to the Orlando resort, claiming she was turned away from one of Disney’s theme parks because of her outfit.

In the seven-second clip shared to TikTok, DeLosReyes showed her followers that she had been wearing a white, knot-front top.

“Guys it happened. I got dress-coded at Disney,” she said in the quick video.

“I was told to leave or get a shirt … So, now we’re getting a shirt.”

While some argued that the shirt could be viewed as inappropriate for a venue where children are present, others saw no issue with the shirt DeLosReyes chose to wear.

In the days following the incident, DeLosReyes elaborated on her experience, where she said she wasn’t actually mad at Disney World.

“I didn’t have a problem with it. I just thought it was funny. I went back to my hotel and changed and went back.”

And while this woman didn’t get the boot per se, her outfit was enough to turn a lot of heads while she scurried through the airport with her boyfriend.

TikTok user Scott shared a clip of his girlfriend, Sal, rocking a loose, white button-up shirt, matching white sandals and bag and a backpack.

However, it was her nude-coloured pair of tights that had some people doing a double-take because “everyone thought she was naked”.

“Probably not the best choice of airport outfit,” he added alongside the cheeky video, which racked up over 260k views.

Scott explained that the tights worn by his girlfriend looked more nude in real life, admitting the outfit doesn’t even look bad on video.

“But the people we were travelling with thought she wasn’t wearing pants,” he said.

Social media users were quick to share their surprise at the outfit.

One admitted: “OMG I thought she was naked,” while a another added: “To be fair, I would have looked twice.”

“I did indeed think she was naked waist down,” they wrote.
