Former Miss Universe winner Olivia Culpo was left confused and embarrassed after being told to “cover up” her outfit by airline staff in the US.

Olivia Culpo allegedly told to cover 'inappropriate' outfit on plane

Model and former Miss Universe winner Olivia Culpo was left humiliated after ground staff told the 29-year-old to “cover up” before boarding a flight with her sister and partner.

The stunning model and her sister, Aurora, documented the incident on social media as the pair – along with Culpo’s partner Christian McCaffrey – prepared to fly to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.

“Olivia and I are going to Cabo and look at her outfit. She looks cute. She looks appropriate. No,” Aurora captioned the Instagram story, before panning to her sister Olivia to show the outfit she wore to board the aircraft.

“They call her up to the desk and tell her that she needs to put a blouse on, otherwise she can’t get on the plane.

“Tell me is that not so f**ked up.”

In the post, Ms Culpo’s outfit was simply a black pair of bike shorts and matching crop with an open cardigan.

In a subsequent post, Olivia put on a grey hooded jumper over her outfit so she could board the American Airlines flight with her sister and boyfriend.

In an attempt to lighten the situation, Aurora posted screenshots of where people can shop for Olivia’s outfit, calling it the “get kicked off @americanair starter kit”.

After covering up, the Culpo sisters along with Mr McCaffrey were able to fly to their destination. Although it was a chilly journey for Ms Culpo’s boyfriend – who was “freezing” on the flight without his hoodie.

According to People, American Airlines had no further comment to make on the situation – while the New York Post reported the company’s policy outlined that “all customers must dress appropriately and offensive clothing isn’t permitted on-board our flights”.

Aurora made a follow-up post saying she received far more comments than she anticipated, saying the general reaction was that people were “mad” by the ordeal.

“If [American Airlines] are going to have a rule, they need to have a rule for every body type not just for a skinny girl who has abs. Like come on, give me a break.”

It’s not the first time a model has been kicked off a flight because of their outfit.

Closer to home, Instagram and OnlyFans model Isabelle Eleanore said she was “shamed and humiliated” after a flight attendant told her to cover up.

Ms Eleanore, who was wearing blue jeans and a low-cut black crop top, was given a hi-vis vest to wear on the Jetstar plane from the Gold Coast to Melbourne in 2021.

The model shared video of the moment on Twitter, writing: “I almost got kicked off the plane for what I was wearing! This is ridiculous. I was humiliated, degraded and discriminated against. @JetstarAirways you have some answering to do!!”

Following the ordeal, a Jetstar spokesman said in a statement provided to news.com.au that the airline “apologised for the way the situation was handled”.

“There was a misunderstanding of what our policy was, and we have reminded our crew of our dress requirements,” the statement read.

“While we do have basic dress requirements on our flights (ie. shoes), we do not have any policy regarding crop tops.”
