Woman refuses to stop singing on Delta flight

A US woman’s act on a plane has been labelled “entitled” and “annoying”, with a clip she shared on Instagram going viral for the wrong reasons.

Woman refuses to stop singing on plane

A Grammy-nominated gospel vocalist was told to stop singing during a flight with her act slammed online after she shared footage of what happened.

Bobbi Storm, 36, a musician from the US, was on-board a Delta flight when a cabin crew staffer told her that unless she stops singing, she will be escorted off the plane.

The Detroit-born vocalist features on the Grammy’s 2024 Best Gospel Album nominee The Maverick Way, by Christian group Maverick City Music — and she was eager to sing her latest song to passengers.

But her Instagram followers were less than impressed by her actions after she shared footage of the confrontation between herself and the flight attendant to her page over the weekend.

The clip, which has been viewed almost 300,000 times, begins with Storm standing in the aisle to perform for passengers when an unimpressed attendant orders her back to her seat.

“I’m charting right now on the billboards,” Storm could be heard saying before the flight attendant asks: “Can you just sit down and be quiet?”

She then walks backward to her seat saying: “I’ll sit down but the seatbelt sign is off, so it’s not a disturbance.”

The crew member walks towards her and asks where her seat is, to which Storm responds, “It’s right here, I’ma have a seat.”

“OK, so watch me bless him,” she tells surrounding passengers before saying she used to sing on planes “a long time ago”.

“I just found out I’m up for two Grammys. My very first time, you guys.”

Some passengers applauded the artist.

“I sing for the Lord, and my song is out on all platforms. It’s called We Can’t Forget Him. I wanna share this with you guys.”

She said she wanted to sing for passengers when she first got on the plane but added she hadn’t “done this for a while and [now] I’ve gotten to the next status.”

But she was quickly interrupted by the frustrated flight attendant who asked her again to “be quiet”.

Storm hit back, claiming the other passengers were “enjoying it”.

“Well I’m not enjoying it,” the Delta staffer responds. “I’m asking you can you please be quiet?”

“Am I gonna go to jail if I don’t?” Storm asks him.

He then asks her, “Are you willing and able to be quiet right now?”

“I’m doing what the Lord is telling me to do,” she responds.

“I’m asking you a question, yes or no. I’m your flight leader, I need you to follow my instruction. My instructions are for you to answer my question. Are you able to be quiet right now?”

The singer then turns to surrounding passengers instead, asking them: “What do you guys think?”

But no-one replies.

“I’m asking you ma’am,” the annoyed flight attendant asks again only for Storm to pose her question to passengers again.

“OK if you’re not able to follow my instruction, you will not be taking this flight,” he tells her.

She then quickly backtracks. “If that’s the case, then that’s fine,” she says. “If you’re the person in charge of it all, then that’s fine.”

“OK, all right, thank you,” the flight attendant says.

However, the moment he walks off, Storm turns to passengers and proceeds to sing.

”I’ll sing it on a low for y’all in the back, if that’s OK. The song is called We Can’t Forget Him”.

“I don’t know the issue. No-one else has ever had an issue,” she adds about the flight attendant.

She then begins to sing the song while some passengers awkwardly look away.

Storm’s performance was slammed online with some of her 170,000 followers branding the act “disrespectful”, “annoying” and “entitled”.

“I’m a Christian and a Flight Att. This is out of order … It would have been in order if you would have prepared the flight atts (by asking if it was OK to sing or present or whatever) ahead of time … and there would not have been a problem,” one person raged.

“The plane is not a STAGE … God tells us to do things descent & in order … congrats on the Grammy Nomination, but God is a God of order period!”

Another person said Storm was “completely in the wrong” and hoped she ended up on the no fly list.

“Why is this giving second hand embarrassment,” wrote a third, while a fourth added: “This could be deemed annoying, people are tired, travelling and don’t want to be bothered.”

Meanwhile, others backed the flight attendant.

“Then she got the nerve to ask ppl not to report him as if he was the one in the wrong. LMAO. YOU are the one who should be reported. That man was doing his job and people on the flight paid to fly in peace. smh.”

Storm, however, doubled down on her act, claiming in a follow-up video Delta reached out to her and apologised.

“They did reach out to me. So whoever called, I can’t say thank you because I don’t want this man to be reprimanded where he loses his job,” she said in the clip.

“I simply want us to keep in mind how to treat each other.

“There was no rules being broken, and it was just me spending my joy with people after they gave me the go to do so.

“So I just hope that if he watches this he is able to learn a valuable lesson on how to treat other people.”
