A mum has drowned while swimming with her kids at a popular Queensland surf break.

Emergency services were called to Froggies Beach about 3.15pm on Sunday in Coolangatta after reports three people were swept into rough surf crashing onto the ragged coastline of Snapper Rocks.

“They had just been getting smashed up against the rocks,” a witness told Nine News.

One child was reportedly pulled to safety by a stranger who had been celebrating a gender reveal party on the beach.
