Video shows exact moment Aussie dad finds out missing son’s alive
Video has captured the exact moment Peter Foote found out his son was alive after going missing in waters off Indonesia.
The exact moment Peter Foote found out his son and three other Australians missing in waters off Indonesia were found alive has been caught on camera.
Mr Foote’s son Elliot Foote, his girlfriend Steph Weisse, and two mates Will Teagle and Jordan Short, went missing Sunday evening during bad weather while travelling in a wooden longboat from Nias Island to Pinang Island, northwest of Sumatra.
They were finally found Tuesday morning paddling on surfboards. Ms Weisse, Mr Teagle and Mr Short were found together, while Elliot was found later.
7NEWS were with Mr Foote, who had sent his son and 11 of his friends to the private surf resort island as a 30th birthday present, when they first got word the missing group had been found.
Mr Foote’s partner Susan Whitla called down from the balcony they believed all four had been found, but Mr Foote clarified to the camera it was not confirmed.
Seconds later, Ms Whitla, who was on the phone, confirmed they had in fact all been found.
With a huge smile on his face, Mr Foote was visibly overwhelmed with relief.
A celebrating neighbour joked, “it’s going to be the biggest bender ever”.
Elliot was later pictured for the first time following the frantic search drinking a beer with friends.
Eight of his mates were on a second boat travelling to the island on Sunday and had made it to their destination safely, after taking refuge on a nearby island during the bad weather.
Three Indonesian crew were also aboard the missing boat with Elliot, with one understood to still be missing at sea.
A video of the moment Ms Weisse, Mr Teagle and Mr Short were found for the first time paddling on surfboards in the calm ocean showed that Elliot was not with them.
Celebrations quickly turned to questions asking if their friend had also been found.
He had gone off on his own to get help and while the three were found just after 11am AEST, it took another hour-and-a-half before a rescue boat located Elliot a few kilometres away, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Mr Foote later got a text from Elliot himself confirming he was safe.
“Hey Dad, Elliot here. I am alive, safe now, love you. Chat later,” Elliot texted his father on another person’s phone.
