Two buses destroyed in Sydney Airport blaze

TWO buses have been destroyed by an intense fire on the perimeter of Sydney Airport.

TWO buses have been destroyed by fire on the edge of Sydney airport.

Two Fire and Rescue NSW crews raced to the scene at Ross Smith Avenue in Mascot, where airport firefighters were already hard at work.

“We arrived to see two buses well alight, and a third one catching alight. We managed to stop it getting too much damage to the third bus and extinguish it with three lines of hose,” a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman told 7 News.

“It was a fairly severe fire, lots of plastics obviously on the bus, so it was quite intense. But the foam, especially from the monitor of the airport fire service knocked it down quite quickly.”

Two buses were completely gutted in the blaze.

Firefighters used foam to combat the flames.

Plumes of black smoke billowed over the airport, visible from some of the terminals.

Vision from the scene shows the fire is now out, and the buses are completely gutted.

“It was only that the buses were parked so close together that there was a bit of a problem catching into the next bus. There was a fourth bus in line, but we managed to keep it just to the two, with just slight damage to the third bus,” the spokesman told 7 News.

No-one was on board when the vehicles caught alight.

It’s not yet clear how the blaze started.
