A TV star was left in shock after claiming she was shamed for her “inappropriate” outfit during a flight.

Maggi Thorne, 42, who starred on American Ninja Warrior, alleges she was told to cover up after wearing a black crop top and high-waisted jogging bottoms, The Sun reports.

Thorne was flying with Southwest Airlines from Orlando to Nashville, when she said she was approached by the flight attendant in an “embarrassing” incident.

The athlete said on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday: “[Southwest Airlines] attendant just shamed me in front of passengers saying my attire wasn’t appropriate.

“A tank top and high-waisted pants. Flight 1039.

“Is this really happening in 2023? The passengers around me were stunned as she shamed me for all to hear.”

Thorne said she refused to cover up and then asked to speak to another member of staff.

The seven-time American Ninja warrior told Insider: “When I told her I wasn’t okay, I don’t think she knew what to do.

“I’m not a confrontational person, but what happened isn’t okay and someone should say something about it.”

She shared an image of her plane outfit on the social media site, and it has sparked a debate online.

One person agreed with the cabin crew, saying: “Looks like most people agree with the flight attendant. Oops.”

Another added: “Put some clothes on. It’s a plane not a gym. The attire should fit the event.”

However, many people supported Thorne, with one person writing: “That’s absurd – proud of you for standing your ground Mag!”

Thorne insists that there was nothing wrong with her clothes, and slammed the flight attendant for saying they breached Southwest’s clothing policy of “lewd, obscene, or patently offensive” attire.

Southwest Airlines has since reportedly been in touch with Thorne and offered her an apology and filed a complaint on her behalf.

The airline’s dress code states that passengers should “dress to impress.”

It says: “While Southwest’s dress code is relaxed and casual, you will be expected to present a clean, well-groomed and tasteful appearance.

“The carrier may, in its sole discretion, refuse to transport, or may remove from an aircraft at any point, any passenger. … Engaging in lewd, obscene or patently offensive behaviour, including wearing clothes that are lewd, obscene, or patently offensive.”

Other airlines have similar dress codes.

Southwest Airlines has been contacted for comment.
