Tourist falls to his death at Bali waterfall
A couple were taking a selfie at the top of a popular waterfall in Bali when things took a tragic turn.
A tourist has plunged 25 metres to his death at a waterfall in front of his horrified partner.
Giancarlo Zicari was enjoying a dream holiday in Bali with his girlfriend Ilaria Biagi when tragedy struck.
The pair headed to Villa Gajah Mas, a picturesque beauty spot, on Sunday morning around 10.45am.
Mr Vicari, an engineer from Rome, and his partner arrived at the top of the cascade and found two chairs next to a metal railing to prevent visitors from falling over the edge.
Mr Zicari suggested posing for a selfie at the top of the waterfall and the couple leaned against the fence.
According to reports, the railing gave way under their weight and both tourists plunged over the edge.
Ms Biagi remained unconscious for around an hour.
When she regained consciousness, she realised her partner had not survived the fall and immediately contacted the authorities.
Luckily, Ms Biagi only suffered minor injuries and was able to start making her way back to the top.
She was assisted by a Ukrainian tourist Viktoria Sokoliuk, who was staying at their hotel.
Mr Zicari’s body was removed by the authorities and taken to the Baturiti Health Centre in Tabanan.
His family declined an autopsy and accepted that his death was accidental, according to police.
His loved ones, including both parents and two siblings, are currently organising the repatriation of his body from Indonesia to their home city in Italy.
