Tourist dies from ‘cocaine overdose’ on flight to Ibiza, days after father’s death

A MAN who died after allegedly overdosing on drugs on a flight was grieving his father’s death days earlier, shocked witnesses say.

The fatal mistake you could easily make

A MAN who reportedly died after “overdosing on cocaine” on a flight was heading to Ibiza to get over his dad’s death, other passengers have claimed.

Cabin crew and two passengers tried to save the British man, who was thought to be in his 30s, and performed CPR on him, The Sun reported.

Witnesses claimed that just minutes earlier, he had poured a white substance into a vodka and Coke before knocking it back in front of the cabin crew.

“He had gone to the loo several times and was acting very strangely,” one witness told The Sun.

“People sitting around them said they were definitely on drugs and when the attendants closed the toilets to stop them he poured everything he had left into his drink.

“He was talking about his dad having died a few days ago and that he just wanted to go to Ibiza to get over it.”

The witness, who did not want to be named, said the man began “shaking” in his seat before crew rushed to the front of the plane with an oxygen mask and a defibrillator.

The witness, from Manchester, UK, said the man was placed in the aisle of the plane while two “amazingly brave” female passengers performed CPR on him for around 20 minutes.

“The two ladies reacted so quickly — they must have had a medical background,” the witness said.

“Even when the plane was landing in Toulouse, one of the women stayed with the man and kept performing CPR despite the cabin crew telling her to get back in her seat.

“We heard that the defibrillator was used on board as well. We felt really anxious — we didn’t know what was happening.”

Once in Toulouse airport, the witness and her friend heard other passengers talking about the tragic man allegedly overdosing on cocaine.

The woman told The Sun Online she heard someone say the man “downed” his drugs when cabin crew became suspicious of him.

“We heard that he had become paranoid that staff knew he was taking drugs and that he had swallowed it all for fear of getting caught,” she said.

“I spoke to a couple who were sitting close to the man and they said he was getting up and down from his seat constantly.

“They heard he had taken coke but didn’t see him doing any drugs.”

The witness said the man was travelling with a girl who appeared “distressed” and was being comforted by older passengers during the mid-air ordeal.

The man was rushed to hospital before he was pronounced dead.

The flight was delayed nearly five hours as customers waited for another plane to be flown in from Manchester. The remaining passengers eventually arrived in Ibiza at 1.30am on Sunday, local time.

A UK Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We are in contact with the French authorities following the death of a British man in Toulouse and are supporting his family at this difficult time.

Jet2 has declined to comment until a coroner’s report is released.

A spokeswoman for Manchester Airport said: “We are aware of the incident and send our deepest condolences to the family. It would be inappropriate for us to comment any further at this time.”

The airline is not responsible for the security clearance of passengers on their flights.

It has not been confirmed by authorities if the man had cocaine, or any other drug, on the flight but an investigation has been launched into his death.
