Tourist abuses Balinese locals over closed road during religious ceremony

Shocking footage has shown a furious tourist charging at religious security in Bali when he was stopped from going down a blocked road.

An aggressive tourist was caught on camera screaming at locals who were trying to redirect him and his girlfriend away from a blocked road during a Balinese religious ceremony.

Shocking footage of the incident, which occurred outside Uluwatu in southern Bali, showed the tourist and his girlfriend, neither of whom were named, trying to get through a blocked road on a motorbike despite it being closed off for the Hindu purification ritual Melasti.

Religious security officers could be seen approaching the couple and calmly directing them to a detour. Rather than taking the advice, the pair “started getting angry and yelling at the people who were doing the ceremony”, according to local reports.

His girlfriend can be seen attempting to placate him and convince him to turn the other way.

Suddenly, the man explodes and accuses one of the religious guards of touching his girlfriend.

“You just touched my girlfriend!” he repeatedly yells, abandoning his bike and charging at the men.

Immediately, the aggressive tourist was grabbed by three bystanders who dragged him back to his motorbike. They put him in a headlock before he finally relaxed.

The short clip was shared widely on social media and by local outlet Ungkap Fakta, with outraged Bali residents slamming the tourists as disrespectful and even calling for them to be deported.

“If you respect the culture then you are willing to get stuck in the traffic during the ceremony like every other Indonesian!” one local wrote.

“Deportation. We don’t need tourists who can’t respect our culture,” commented another, tagging Bali’s immigration authority.

“We should deport these people,’ said a third. “This is not normal and acceptable. If you go to someone’s house and disrespect this person’s place, he will kicked you out of his house.

“Bali should do the same with all these disrespectful tourists. They don’t understand and respect the beauty of this place and the religion.”

And a fourth: “Two years in Bali, time to go home.”
