Unmasked passenger going berserk on LA flight

A United Airlines passenger has been filmed in a TikTok video blowing up, ripping off his mask and threatening to break someone’s neck in the latest viral post of a disorderly traveller.

One of a growing trend of online passenger outbursts, the viral video shows a young, bearded man in the moments after he was asked to turn off his mobile phone by United Airlines staff.

The incident took place on a flight to Los Angeles when the man reportedly refused to turn his mobile phone off before the flight took off, Business Insider reported.

Wearing a back to front green cap, white T-shirt and grey sweat pants, the man gesticulates and screams at other passengers while threatening to find the personal information of the flight crew.

“The f*** you talking to? I’m gonna find your name, date of birth and address, your social security number before I get off this plane,” he threatens.

When another passenger attempts to intervene to help calm the man down, the video shows the maskless man saying “mind your business, because I’ll break your neck.”

During the rant the man screams, “you got a f***ing problem, let’s go to jail”.

Police later arrived on the scene to escort the man off the flight.

Posted by TilTok user @starcadearcade, the video has over 6.4 million views and two other videos of the same incident have earned almost 4 million views on TikTok.

US federal coronavirus protection laws require passengers to wear a face mask fully covering their mouth and nose in the airport and on board for the entire flight.

Passengers who do not follow the protocols may be refused transport, could lose their travel privileges on future United flights, according to the United Airlines website.

Refusing to wear a face mask “in the airport or on board is a federal offence which may result in a fine of up to $35,000,” it says.

Airlines have reported a rising number of on board incidents this year, including passengers hitting, yelling at and shoving flight staff.

Fellow passengers have captured several of these moments and posted them online where they attracted large audiences.

Last month, Hawaiian Airlines had to divert two flights in 12 hours after one customer assaulted a flight attendant and another refused to wear a mask.

In September, a male passenger on a JetBlue flight choked a female flight attendant with his necktie and begged to be shot.

In June, an unruly Delta Airlines attendant was removed from a flight diverted to Oklahoma City after he pushed a female attendant against a wall and began choking her.

In January this year, police removed a female passenger from a flight in Washington DC after she refused to wear a mask and yelled angrily at other passengers.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, there have been nearly 4,000 reports of unruly behaviour and more than 2,800 cases of passengers refusing to wear masks in 2021, Business Insider reported.

Transportation Security Administration workers previously told Insider that the increase in disorderly airline passengers has made them want to quit their jobs.

“Me and many of my co-workers really have always felt like we were the b***ard children of the federal government,” a Baltimore worked said.

“For many, many of us, it’s really just like, okay, one day closer to retirement.”
