The Veronicas claim they still don’t have an answer for why they were booted off Qantas flight
The Veronicas have hit out at Qantas during a TV interview, claiming the Aussie airline is holding back from meeting with them.
The Veronicas claim they are still to receive official word from Qantas about why they were booted off a domestic flight in September.
Sisters Lisa and Jess Origliasso, who are spruiking their MTV reality series Blood Is For Life, which is set to air next week, made headlines after they were “embarrassingly” removed from a Qantas aircraft by three federal police.
At the time, the Aussie pop duo said the ordeal was “crazy” and “confusing”, but the airline hit back, saying the Aussie pop duo “refused to follow crew instructions” on the flight from Sydney to Brisbane and were therefore deemed a security risk.
Speaking to news.com.au, Lisa said Qantas were refusing to meet with the twins about the incident, adding that the pair want to show the video they filmed on board the plane which reveals “the truth” of what happened.
She said they were considering putting it on their reality show, which airs on Foxtel this Sunday.
“We were originally asked a lot about if it was a publicity stunt, which obviously it was not,” Lisa said.
“The only people that got their names tarnished was us.
“Jess filmed it so we could take it to Qantas to review it so they could get the full story of what happened, obviously they’ve denied seeing it or wanting to meet with us, so we’re like what do we do with it?
“We’re only protecting Qantas by not showing the truth so we are considering putting it on the show.”
Speaking to the Today show’s Richard Wilkins on Monday, the pair said the circumstances around why they were escorted off the aircraft remained unclear.
“We still haven’t had an official answer (from Qantas),” Lisa said.
The pair, who have sought legal advice on the matter that happened on September 22, told The Courier Mail they had made six attempts to meet with Qantas in person but claim the invitation has been “ignored or declined”.
At the time of the incident, the sisters claim the fiasco was blown out of proportion and quashed any suggestion it was all for publicity for their new reality show.
According to Qantas, after the twins boarded and made their way to economy class of the flight, cabin crew gave instruction about bags and shifting their luggage in the overhead storage compartment.
Company protocol is that cabin crew cannot manage passenger baggage and advised the pair to seek assistance from another passenger if they were unable to personally move their bags.
According to the airline, that’s when the pair allegedly started getting argumentative before taking photos and video of the crew involved.
“I believe it is because I asked for the gentleman’s name,” Lisa said
“He was reiterating company policy about not being able to assist us turning the bag around in the overhead.
“I don’t think a lot of people realise we are three foot tall. I asked for the gentleman’s name, and we got told he was calling security on us.”
Jessica joked her sister was wearing sunglasses at the time of boarding, which may have angered cabin crew further.
“I was wearing sunglasses that may have infuriated the flight attendant,” Lisa laughed.
Speaking to The Courier Mail, Lisa said cabin crew made numerous “overhead announcements” about there being a security risk on the flight.
“Jess started filming as it was going on,” Lisa said.
“I thought they needed a reason to kick us off, it was really confusing.”
The pair were put on another flight 30 minutes after being removed from QF516, where they were seated next to a pilot who had just clocked off for the day.
“The next flight they sat us next to a (Qantas) pilot who had just flown in from Hong Kong and was on the way home,” Lisa explained.
“We were having a good old chit chat and we told him we had just got kicked off a Qantas flight. He didn’t believe it.
“We went from being a security risk and being marched off a flight by AFP officers in bulletproof vests to half an hour later sitting next to a pilot taking selfies. It was one of the most ridiculous things ever to happen.”
Lisa said the situation remained the most intimidating and bizarre experience of their career.
The Veronicas: Blood Is For Life airs at 6pm on Sunday, November 10 on Foxtel, mtv.com.au and Fetch.
